Quit Smoking Cigarettes - What You Need To Know

Quitting smoking is hard and you are probably going to need some help and advice. By now you have probably made the decision that you want to quit smoking cigarettes. You know the health risks associated with smoking and you know that they are expensive and leave a large hole in your finances. So you should have plenty of reasons to motivate yourself to quit smoking. The biggest challenge that you are likely to face are the unpleasant symptoms associated with nicotine withdrawal.

You can either quit smoking right here right now and go cold turkey. This isn't easy however as this will maximize the unpleasant withdrawal symptoms as you try to suddenly break free of your bodies nicotine addiction. If you are somebody who smokes because you find that it calms your nerves, the cold turkey method will probably be very challenging for you as the withdrawals symptoms are likely to cause anxiety.

A combination of the cold turkey methods with natural therapies to ease the withdrawal symptoms is potentially a good option. Herbs, acupuncture and hypnosis can ease the withdrawal symptoms and make it is easier for you and increase your chances of success.

The most common form of conventional treatment for quitting smoking is the use of Nicotine Replacement Therapies. These will get you off the harmful smoking habit by substituting the nicotine you get from cigarettes with nicotine that is delivered via patches or gum. This doesn't solve your addiction problem as you still need to get off the nicotine which is what gets your addicted to smoking. But it's a good start and is certainly better than continuing to smoke as you won't be getting all of the other chemicals into your system that are added to cigarettes. You will need to gradually ease yourself off the nicotine substitute in order to break your addiction.

Please remember that every person who quits smoking is a unique individual and what works for one person may not work for another person. You may need to try more than one method of quitting smoking before you are successful. But as long you want to quit smoking and you can back up your desire to quit with the motivation to do so then you have a very good chance of quitting.

There are telephone help lines that you can call to obtain advice on quitting smoking. In many towns there are support groups that you can attend where you can meet with other people who are trying to quit smoking. Meeting and talking with other people who are going through the same experiences that you are can be very beneficial, especially if none of your friends, family or colleagues are able to offer you support.
